Early Quotation Guide for Concept Sketch Stage | Key Cost Factors
It is common for clients to request an initial project quotation at the early design stage, when only concept sketches are available and complete engineering drawings or BOM (Bill of Materials) are not yet finalized. At this stage, we do not provide a single fixed price figure. A rigid preliminary quote often leads to unexpected cost revisions and budget discrepancies as project details are confirmed later. To ensure full transparency and protect your budget expectations, our early quotations are always defined with clear accuracy ranges, calculation assumptions, and applicable boundaries.
We adopt different professional quotation methods based on the completeness of the information you provide. Each method comes with a clear accuracy margin to help you understand your budget range:
1. Analog Benchmark Quotation (±15% Accuracy | Highest Precision)
If your product is similar to our previously completed projects in terms of structure, functionality, and manufacturing process, we will calculate the quote based on verified historical production data. This method relies on real-world project references and industry-standard parameters, delivering the most accurate cost estimation at the sketch stage with a controllable error margin of ±15%.
2. Weight & Parameter-Based Quotation (±30% Accuracy | Standard for Sketch-Only Projects)
For new projects with only concept sketches and no detailed technical specifications, our pricing is determined by four core cost-driving factors: component weight, material grade selection, manufacturing complexity, and order quantity. This is our standard estimation method for early-stage sketch projects, with a stable accuracy range of ±30% to support your preliminary budget planning.
3. Function-Based Rough Estimation (Wider Error Margin | For Minimal Information)
If only product functional requirements are provided without sketches or structural details, we will deliver a basic cost estimation based on functional positioning. Due to the lack of structural, material, and process information, this estimation carries a wider error margin and is only suitable for ultra-early budget reference.
Critical Hidden Factors That Greatly Affect Final Cost
Many unconfirmed technical requirements are the main cause of subsequent price adjustments. To secure a more accurate initial quote, we recommend confirming the following details at the early communication stage: surface finishing requirements, dimensional tolerance standards, and industry compliance & certification specifications.
All estimation assumptions, calculation premises, and excluded fees (such as custom mold costs and special testing fees) will be clearly stated in our written quotation documents to avoid information ambiguity. Please note that all sketch-stage quotes are preliminary estimations and non-binding for final settlement. A precise, official final quotation will be provided once the complete design documents and technical specifications are fully finalized.
